Tully River
Solo or paired. One raft. You paddle. Both of you.
*Minimum age 6. All sessions guided by local experts.
The Sports Raft
A two-person inflatable raft. You and your partner paddle together through Grade 2-3 rapids on the Tully River. No guide in the boat directing you. The raft is yours to control.
Local guides paddle alongside you on the river. They know every rapid, every line, every eddy. They're there if you need them. But the raft answers to you.
Same river as the river raft. Same price. Same session times. The difference is participation. In a sports raft, there is no back seat.
First rapid: hold on. Last rapid: arms in the air. 45 minutes from town.
The Claim
There is no other self-drive sports raft operating on a commercial river in Australia. We checked.
Every other operator puts you in a group raft with a guide calling the shots. Nothing wrong with that. But if you want to paddle your own line through Grade 2-3 white water with local guides alongside, this is the only place you can do it.
The Tully River. 45 minutes from Mission Beach. Nowhere else.
Who It's For
The sports raft is for people who want full participation. If sitting in the back while someone else steers sounds like a waste, this is your raft.
Two people, one raft, Grade 2-3 rapids. A shared experience that requires actual teamwork. Better than dinner.
Pair up and take on the Tully together. Multiple sports rafts run in the same session. Race each other if you want. The river doesn't care.
Minimum age 6. One parent, one child. The raft is small enough that everyone contributes. No passengers.
If you've rafted before in a big group and spent half the time coasting, this is the correction. Every paddle stroke matters.

FAQ
Age 6. Wildside is the only commercial Tully River operator with a minimum age of 6. Children must be paired with a parent or guardian in the sports raft.
Same Grade 2-3 rapids as the river raft. You control the raft, but local guides are on the river throughout every session. No prior experience needed. You'll get a full safety briefing and paddling instruction before you hit the water. The river grades you on commitment, not experience.
The sports raft is a two-person self-drive raft. You and your partner steer and paddle. The river raft holds up to 8 people with a guide inside calling the commands. Both run on the same stretch of river, at the same times, at the same price. The difference is how you engage with the water.
Enquire with us directly. We can sometimes pair solo paddlers with another single booking, or we can discuss other options. The sports raft is built for two, so we'll work with you to find the right fit.
Full safety briefing before every session. Helmet, life jacket, and wetsuit provided. Local guides are on the river at all times, paddling alongside the sports rafts. Self-drive means you steer. It does not mean you're alone out there.
